Seyhmus Baloglu, Ph.D., CHE

Dr. Baloglu teaches Hospitality and Tourism Marketing, Marketing Strategy, Research Methods, and Statistics. Prior to UNLV, he taught at Mersin School of Tourism and Hotel Management in Turkey, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has a Bachelor's degree in Tourism and Hotel Administration from Cukurova University in Turkey; an MBA from Hawaii Pacific University and a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Prior to going into education, Dr. Baloglu had a diverse background in the industry, including restaurants, hotels, resort clubs and travel agencies. His last position was as general manager for the lodging division of a tourism company in Turkey. He has a total quality management (TQM) certificate and trained the front office team at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. He is also Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) by The Education Foundation of American Hotel and Motel (Lodging) Association. Dr. Baloglu worked on several consulting projects related to TQM, Marketing Strategy, Research Design and Analysis with Hilton Hawaiian Village, Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, Station Casinos, and The Education Foundation of Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA).

He has published more than 30 articles on marketing, tourism and TQM in Journal of Travel Research, Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, Tourism Analysis, Tourism Management, The Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Vacation Marketing, and Anatolia. He also made many presentations at national and international conferences and symposia. Dr. Baloglu won Best Teaching Award at Virginia Tech in 1994. He won Emerald Management Review award for five times (1996-2001), given to excellent published research on tourism and hospitality industry. He won the Boyd Distinguished Professor Award for Research Excellence in 1999 and Ace Denken Research Award in 2001 at University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Dr. Baloglu serves on the editorial board of Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, Journal of Foodservice and Restaurant Marketing, Tourism Analysis, International Journal of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and HTLScience. He is married with children, two boys: Deniz (8) and Derin (3).
